Red River Blast Garnet is considered by some surface preparation companies to be the most ideal portable blasting abrasive available on the market today. Silica sand, probably the most prevalent blast abrasive in the last century, is facing serious scrutiny due to the known health hazards from breathing the dust. This garnet has less than 0.5% free silica, no heavy metals, no hazardous materials, little dust while blasting, is recyclable and is cost effective.
Red River Garnet can be more cost efficient to use (without recycling) than slags even though the cost per pound (or per ton) is greater. This can be attributed to high bulk density and durability of garnet. When used correctly, a blasting project using garnet can be completed in less than half the time as slag and consume as little as one third as much garnet as slag. This equates to savings in costly labor, waste disposal, equipment rental, consumables, blast replacement parts and fuel.
Our garnet is processed domestically and in India. Garnet processing is a time consuming and costly endeavor. However, since we use state of the art processing equipment, we are able to maintain relatively stable pricing from the mine.
